D’s 6-Pack and Dogz

If you live in the East End of town, you’re familiar with D’s 6-pack and Dogz.  It’s located on Braddock Avenue, and is always packed to the gills with hungry customers and beer drinkers.  D’s is a comfortable restaurant/bar to meet with friends.  It was originally half its size before expanding a few years ago.  Now, instead of just a small bar area, (where coolers took up much of the space) there is an additional dining room that offers seating for 50 people.  Since the expansion and the smoke-free laws were passed, you can now bring your family for dinner.  We ate at D’s last night and saw several families with their children enjoying hot dogs, cheese-covered french fries, and hamburgers.  Another lure of D’s is the selection of beers.  If you’re looking for a specific import or domestic brew chances are you will find it in the “Beer Cave.”  The beer cave is a large room in the back of the restaurant that is stocked with brews from all over the world.  You can grab a 6-pack, and mix and match your selections.  One of the nice things about D’s is that you can go get your own beer.  Simply go to a cooler, make a selection, and take it to your table.  Whatever you do, don’t open the bottle yourself, that’s a BIG no-no.  The wait staff are the only people permitted to open your bottle for you, this way they can keep track and charge you appropriately.

If you’ve never been to D’s it’s worthwhile to go just to see the artwork on the walls.  A very gifted artist has painted murals, caricatures, and other various objects on the walls.  If you look closely you can find Darth Vader, Terry Bradshaw, and many other Pittsburgh icons.

The food at D’s is very good.  If you’re not in the mood for a hot dog, they have great salads and cheesy pizzas.

In the summer time a large garage door opens on the façade of the building exposing the patrons to the hustling and bustling on Braddock Avenue.

There is an additional location of D’s 6-pack and Dogz in Monroeville.
