Apple Crisp
This is a 3-layered fall dessert that is perfect for this time of the year!
Serves 6-8 For the Crust Ingredients 2-cups unbleached flour 3-tablespoons granulated sugar 1-teaspoon kosher salt 1-cup unsalted, chilled butter 4-6 tablespoons ice water Directions Mix together the unbleached flour, granulated sugar, and Kosher salt. Add the butter in chunks, and incorporate with a fork until the mixture resembles small peas. Slowly add the water, 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough comes together. Form the dough into a round ball, and refrigerate for 1 hour. Remove the dough from the refrigerator, and roll out on a floured surface- place in a greased 9 X 13 baking dish. Put in a 350-degree oven for 12 minutes, or until the edges become brown. Remove from the oven, and let cool. For the Filling Ingredients 8 granny smith apples (these work best because of the tartness of the apples) ½ cup unsalted butter 1-cup brown sugar ½ cup granulated sugar 1-cup heavy whipping cream ½ teaspoon kosher salt 1-teaspoon cinnamon Directions Peel and core the apples, and slice into 1-inche wedges Place the butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Once the butter has melted, add the apples to the pan- carefully stir with a wooden spoon for 3-4 minutes. Add the brown and granulated sugar to the apples- cook for 2 minutes. Next, add the heavy whipping cream, salt, and cinnamon and cook for 5 minutes until a caramel sauce develops. Remove the cooked apples from the heat. For the Crumble Topping Ingredients 2-cups Whole Oats ½-cup melted, unsalted butter 1-cup brown sugar ¼-cup unbleached flour 2-teaspoons cinnamon ½-teaspoon kosher salt Directions Place all of the ingredients in a medium-sized bowl and mix until the ingredients are incorporated. Set aside. Place the cooked apples on top of the crust in the 9 X 13 baking dish. Top with the crumble mixture. Put the Apple Crisp in a 350-degree oven for 20 minutes. Remove, and serve while warm with fresh cream, and cinnamon.
Enjoy!
