Do you ever feel like every week is the same as the one before it? Are you stuck in the Monday thru Friday rut that is our collective modern existence? Stay with me here, I’m about to offer you a cure. Er, at least a break from the monotony.
I like Mondays. The potential for a good week gets me jazzed! Still fresh from the weekend, I’m making lists and getting things done. By Tuesday, the weekend buzz has worn off and the reality of four more workdays looms over my head like my frizzy hair. By midweek, I need some kind of fun to shake off stress and break up the week. That’s why on Wednesday nights, I love to go to Rock Bottom in the Waterfront to watch local favorites GOOD BROTHER EARL play some rockin’ acoustic sets.
I’ve been watching this band play around ‘tahn since 2004. Their music reminds me of my first summer living in Pittsburgh…hanging with my best intern-buddy Bridget at theThree Rivers Arts Festival (singing along and dancing in the grass at the Point)…dancing on the docks in the Strip District (cute old guy wants to show us his boat? Ok!)…Happy Hour at Bar Louie, then more dancing in the street at the Station Square Street Jam. Yep, I did a lot of dancing that summer. Thanks, mostly, to Good Brother Earl. I’d define their music as Americana…rock, blues, pop, and a hint of country. The band rocks it while Jeff’s soaring vocals lift you right up out of your seat. So, so good.
Rock Bottom boasts an impressive selection of homemade beers, from the Lumpy Dog Light Lager to the High Level Brown beer and a rotating dark beer selection. I’ve eaten at Rock Bottom at least a half a dozen times, and I’ve never been disappointed. Take a moment to read Chef Chuck Kerber’s review of Rock Bottom for a better foodie analysis! With plenty of pub tables in the bar area, it’s easy to meet lots of your friends for drinks and appetizers before the 9pm kickoff. There is no cover charge to experience GBE’s acoustic awesomeness, and yes, they are happy to take requests for cover songs. (Unless that request is from me and it happens to be “Sledgehammer” by Peter Gabriel. Hey, maybe if YOU guys ask…Come on, Jeff!)
Treat yourself to a fun summer night with Good Brother Earl at Rock Bottom. Every Wednesday, 9pm.
