Michigan Rock Cookies
One of our members at the club recently shared these delicious cookies with us! Michigan Rock cookies are chewy, flavorful, and easy to make.

Prep time: 40 minutes Preheat oven to 375 degrees Serves: 8-10 Ingredients 1 ½ cups sugar 1 cup butter 3 cups sifted flour 4 eggs 1 ½ pounds black or English walnuts in the shell (3 cups shelled, 13 ounces) 1 pound dates, pre-chopped if available 1 teaspoon allspice 1 ½ teaspoon cinnamon powder 1 teaspoon vanilla 1 teaspoon baking soda Directions Crush the nuts with a rolling pin in a freezer storage bag. Separate the eggs- beat the yolks separately. Cream the sugar, butter, and egg yolks in a mixing bowl. Add the vanilla. In a large stainless steel mixing bowl combine the spices, flour, dates and nuts. Mix baking soda in a little bit of warm water, add the flour mixture. Beat the egg white (mixer on HIGH) until firm peak form. Combine all of the ingredients, adding the egg whites last. Drop by rounded teaspoon-fulls onto an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake @ 375 degrees for 12 minutes, baking one sheet in the oven at a time on the top rack. Makes 8-dozen, 2-3 inch cookies.

This is almost exactly my grandmother’s recipe we add cream of tartar and use same amt but Brown sugar not white. I will add the allspice.
How much creamof tarter? My Grammy made these…recipe lost.
