61 B Cafe, Regent Square, Pittsburgh
There’s an abundance of good, privately owned coffee shops in Pittsburgh, especially in the east end. These gathering spots provide quality Joe, pastries, and pleasant atmospheres for their patrons. Lately, my favorite go-to spot has been Biddle’s escape in Regent Square. I go there every Sunday to read my paper, drink hot Joe (with heavy cream) and chat with my friends. Today however, I tried a new spot on Braddock Avenue, 61 B Café.
61 B Café occupies the space where Katerbean used to be. The new owners gutted the aforementioned shop, installing new equipment and furniture. The new décor is tasteful, clean and inviting, a much needed improvement from the previous shop. 61 B Café has a large selection of delicious biscotti, chocolate cakes, and homemade cookies as well as granola.
The coffee is good, although I like a slightly stronger brew. Some of the coffee is sourced locally from La Prima, while other blends are bought from different locations in and out of state.
61 B provides free WI-FI for its customers, as well as plenty of outlets to plug in your computer. The shop quiet, and is an ideal place for private meetings, and getting work completed.
If you live in the East End and are hankering for a good cup of coffee, some quiet time, and a few pieces of biscotti, give 61 B Café a try- you won’t be disappointed.
