It’s not easy to find authentic Mexican food in Pittsburgh- most people think Taco Bell is delicious.
Growing up in San Diego, it was easy to find eateries that served delicious Mexican food- they were abundant. These restaurants were usually small, had little or no décor, and few, if any of the employees spoke English.
Bea’s Taco Town located at 633 Smithfield Street in Pittsburgh reminds me of the genuine Mexican fare that I loved enjoyed so much growing up on the west coast. The food is pure and uncomplicated. The tacos are served in double-wrapped, fresh corn tortillas (flour tortillas may be substituted). Chicken, beef, and pork tacos are available, as are quesadillas, chiminchangas, and quesadillas. Tortilla chips are made in-house, and go well with hot queso and homemade salsa.
If you work in the city, and are in a rush, give Bea’s Taco Town a try- you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
