Wiener World, Pittsburgh, PA

Wiener World will be celebrating its 51st anniversary this month.  An established Pittsburgh restaurant, the hot dog shop has been providing hungry patrons with all-natural casing hot dogs, and other quality fare for decades.

The interior provides no place to sit and eat, but does have a standing-counter so that you can avoid getting ketchup on your tie while you eat. A large grill slowly cooks the hot dogs, and kielbasa that is served up by the friendly, and efficient staff. During the summer months, Wiener World also provides delicious soft-serve ice cream that can be ordered from a walk-up window. The ice cream is smooth and velvety- not icy, and is worth trying if you’re not too full from your hot dog intake.

The most popular items on the menu are, the 2 all-natural casing hot dogs and 16 ounce drink ($7.00), the 2 all-beef hot dogs and 16 ounce drink ($8.50), and the kielbasa and 16 ounce drink ($8.50). In addition to great tasting hot dogs and kielbasa, Wiener World also offers cheese and gravy fries, a giant fish sandwich ($7.50), and assorted hoagies. The homemade chili also has a solid reputation, and came highly recommended.

My hot dogs were delicious- I especially liked that they were served with fresh buns from the warmer.   I enjoyed standing at the counter people watching, but I could hear my mom’s voice in the back of my head saying, “You need to sit and enjoy your food, so your body knows you’ve eaten.” Sorry mom.

I was too stuffed to try the soft serve after my meal; perhaps next time.

If you’re from Pittsburgh, you’ve most likely sampled the food at Wiener World. If you haven’t, it’s worth the trip into town to visit the iconic eatery.
