Dozen Bakeshop, Squirrel Hill
Over the past few years, it seems as if cupcakes have become more popular than ever. They’re all over the place; even replacing traditional cakes at weddings. Why the renewed popularity? Is it that the cupcake is small, and easy to eat? Maybe it’s because they come in so many different flavors, and just as important, colors. If you really enjoy a cupcake (as most people do) Dozen Bakeshop in Squirrel Hill should be on your short list of places to visit. It’s a very small space, but it’s loaded with charm, and sweet aromas. When you walk in, there’s a cupcake-case so you can see all of the flavors…I mean, you eat with your eyes first right? Some of the flavors include but are not limited to: Vanilla Vanilla, Milk Chocolate, Black Forest, Red Velvet, Mostess (Vegan), Mint Chocolate Chip, Pancakes and Syrup, The Elvis (banana and peanut butter of course), Vegan Chocolate Peanut Butter, Caramel Apple, Coffee, The Cosmo, and The Turtle. This is just a small example of the menu. I’ve had the opportunity to try several flavors of these cupcakes, and they’re all good. The best part, in my opinion, is the butter cream frosting. It’s sweet and creamy, often with large chunks of sugar on top. Besides selling cupcakes, Dozen offers catering services with savory pastries.
Prices for cupcakes at Dozen are approximately $2.50 per unit; less if ordered in large quantities.
Embrace the cupcake! Become a kid again, and don’t worry about getting some frosting on your nose.
