I Want You (She’s So Heavy)

Now for the bad news: I’m OVERWEIGHT. I know, I know…you’re all rolling your eyes. Sure, I’m “little”…I’m short. I’m like Snooki “little”…It ain’t “little” if you still got a muffin top. After a humiliating and eye-opening experience at the doctor, I decided that I could either bullshit all of you and allow myself to come across as one of those annoying people who eat TONS and never gains any weight, or I could use your support to start investigating a healthier lifestyle. I am 27 years old, I’ve never been married, no kids, and the wallpaper on my phone is a piece of pizza. Which one do you think I chose?

How to Sharpen a Knife

Keeping knives sharp is important; it helps with ease of cutting, and more importantly, it prevents accidents. If you’re using a dull knife, the blade is more likely to slip off the cutting surface and create an accident. There are several different ways to sharpen a knife; I’ll go over a few here.

Good Brother Earl at Rock Bottom

I like Mondays. The potential for a good week gets me jazzed! Still fresh from the weekend, I’m making lists and getting things done. By Tuesday, the weekend buzz has worn off and the reality of four more workdays looms over my head like my frizzy hair. By midweek, I need some kind of fun to shake off stress and break up the week. That’s why on Wednesday nights, I love to go to Rock Bottom in the Waterfront to watch local favorites GOOD BROTHER EARL play some rockin’ acoustic sets.

Video Demonstrations Coming Soon

First of all, I would like to thank everyone who has been following us over the past 6 months! In that short amount of time, our readership has grown quite a bit. With that growth in mind, we have decided to do a complete redesign on our web site. Our new site will feature new sections, including a revised recipe section, food photos, and eventually, video demonstrations.

Bacon Bash, 2010

I guess that we arrived shortly after the first wave of bacon-lovers, because when we got there, most of the food was already gone. It was hot outside, so Ryan and I waited inside at the bar for them to replenish the food. This frozen cosmo was the perfect antidote to the heat and hunger.

Audubon Society of Pittsburgh Contest

“AppleTizer” winner announced at AppleJamm, September 25th

(Fox Chapel, PA)–Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania is seeking submissions for its 4th annual apple baking contest. This year, the contest will focus on “AppleTizers” — appetizers that feature apples as a main ingredient.

To participate in the contest, entrants should send in their recipe to Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania by Monday, September 20th. A chef judge will review the recipes and choose three finalists to bring their creations to the AppleJamm festival at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, Fox Chapel, on September 25th where the top AppleTizer will be announced. Prizes will be awarded.

Mother’s Day Recipes

Mom’s got to eat.
So treat her on Mothers’ Day. Sure, you may be most famous for your culinary prowess with frozen pizza, but this is a once-a-year event and your chance to really impress with a quick and easy brunch of cinnamon rolls and spinach quiche.
These recipes are amended so that even a novice baker can achieve great results. Just be sure to go to the store and have everything on-hand before you start.
