A collection of Pittsburghs finest chefs will gather at Savor Pittsburgh: A Celebration of Cuisine on Thursday, August 21, 2014 to share their favorite recipes for the coveted Dish of the Year honors. Savor Pittsburgh will take place this year at an exciting new location, Stage AE! Located on the North Shore of Pittsburgh, Stage AE is the second-of-its-kind indoor/outdoor venue in American and will be outfittedwith elegant white canopies as some of Pittsburgh’s best chefs and restaurants come together for a special night.

Simpatico Espresso is located in the old Acloa Building (the Regional Enterprise Tower), and has been serving customers since May of 2006. In addition to serving standard coffee, espresso, and cappuccino, you can pick up fresh baked goods prepared by Colangelo’s Bakery, Enrico’s Biscotti, Café Raymond, and Allegro Hearth Bakery.
Join The Midwife Center for their ninth annual fundraiser party and cake contest, Let Them Eat Cake! The party will include refreshments, a silent auction, 1920s photo booth, live music from the Jazz Age, fun and of course – CAKE! The theme this year is Taking it to the Nines: A Roarin’ Good Time in celebration of the ninth year of the event and the bold attitude of the Roaring Twenties. Amateur and professional bakers will compete in two different categories – tasting cakes and decorated cakes, and you and a panel of judges will vote on cakes based on taste, decoration and use of the theme.
Every once in a while I come across a restaurant with real character. These eating establishments are usually small, have a loyal following, and have been around for years. The Back Porch Restaurant in Belle Vernon is quaint, comfortable, and most importantly, serves excellent food.
I was excited when I heard that Vanilla Pastry Studio was coming to Regent Square- baked goodies are my favorite. Vanilla is located in busy Regent Square, on bustling Braddock Avenue. The newly constructed building sits next to Typhoon; there’s plenty of parking in front of the store. The facade of the building is contemporary, and covered with large panes of glass. When I walked into Vanilla I was immediately received with the aromatic, sweet smell of cupcakes- yum.
The Oakland Business Improvement District (OBID), in partnership with the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy, announce the start of another season for the Oakland Farmers Market. As always, customers can expect fresh fruits, vegetables, and baked goods. This year they can also expect a fresh location; The Oakland Farmers Market has moved to Schenley Plaza, located at 4100 Forbes Avenue. The new location will provide a more comfortable, convenient location for vendors and customers alike.
