If you haven’t heard of Fede Pasta in North Huntington, you’re about to. Chef Steve Salvi, proprietor of Fede Pasta, has always been passionate about making fine Italian food, and that has translated into his success as a professional pasta maker. Saturday evening, Ryan and I met up with some of his dude friends at our local Beer Fest. The event, sponsored by Packs and Dogs (Shiloh Street, Mt Washington), offered drinkers a chance to sample more than 100 craft beers! Redbeard’s provided some hot, delicious bar food. Breweries sent their friendliest and most knowledgeable folks to acquaint attendees with their beer. What more could I ask for?

Congratulations to Jill Anderson for winning our recipe contest! Here is her original recipe for Mango Swirl Yogurt Cheesecake. It’s an elegant recipe, which Jill has obviously put a lot of work into.
When I go shopping for a new knife, I always get excited- which brand will I choose? Is there a new knife out there that I’m not familiar with? Does it have superpowers? Will I be able to cut 1,000 onions in a single bound? Well, probably not, but I sure am going to have some fun picking out a new model.
Next week, I am taking Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday off of work to enjoy my “fall staycation” I want to experience Pittsburgh the way an out-of-towner might. I am looking to you, dear readers, to come up with some ideas for dining, recreation, and entertainment.
Mother’s Day is right around the corner, have you made plans yet? Don’t be one of those people who waits until the last minute! Traditionally, people choose brunch for this special day. If you’d like to try something different, make reservations at a nice restaurant for Saturday evening instead of Sunday day. By doing this, you can avoid the crowds, and even start a new tradition. In addition to having a meal out with your family, buy your Mother some nice roses and candy; she did raise you after all!
If you find yourself in Irwin, PA, and are in the mood for some ice cream, be sure to stop by the Kerber Dairy Farm. Besides producing a wide variety of quality dairy products, the Kerbers also make premium ice cream. So, what does “premium ice cream” mean ? Well, simply, it means having a high butter fat content. The more butterfat in an ice cream has, the better it is. Higher levels of fat mean a smoother, fluffier texture and a pleasant, soft aftertaste. Besides being rich, Kerber ice cream is also dense; free of excess air. Combine these two qualities in an ice cream, and the result is a close-to-perfect product.
