I was excited when I heard that Vanilla Pastry Studio was coming to Regent Square- baked goodies are my favorite. Vanilla is located in busy Regent Square, on bustling Braddock Avenue. The newly constructed building sits next to Typhoon; there’s plenty of parking in front of the store. The facade of the building is contemporary, and covered with large panes of glass. When I walked into Vanilla I was immediately received with the aromatic, sweet smell of cupcakes- yum.
I started taking Yoga at the Mookshi Wellness Center (above Biddle’s Escape in Regent Square) a few weeks ago. I was amazed at what fun the class was- Rachael Goss is a fantastic teacher, and don’t worry if you’re a beginner- you can move at your own pace. Classes last about an hour, and are fun and educational. Come see what you’re capable of!
Katie and I were spent; too much going on in our lives- we needed a few drinks to help us unwind. It was a typical Thursday night in Regent Square; pedestrians were out picking up their dry-cleaning (trying not to get hit by cars as they crossed Braddock Avenue), having dinner, and running errands. We weren’t interested in doing anything productive- we needed cold beer and talk-therapy. Neither of us had been to The Loft, so we decided to give it a try.
French Fries in a salad? Yeah, you heard me…fries and greens. Shortly after I moved to Pittsburgh, I ordered a grilled chicken salad, and it came with gobs of cheese and French fries. It seemed odd to me, I mean, don’t the fries cancel out the health benefits of the mixed greens? Well, I’m not sure, but it sure tastes good- especially with extra ranch dressing. One such restaurant that specializes in the French fry-salad combo is Dunning’s in Regent Square. It’s a family-friendly restaurant that has been around for the past 20 years. Dunning’s food is straightforward; no complicated sauces, expensive cuts of veal, or white tablecloths. What they do have is good burgers, grilled chicken dishes and salads with French fries.
