Well, my search is over. Main Street Deli in Munhall has reached sandwich greatness in my book. The hoagie I sampled was one of the best I’ve had in Pittsburgh. The bread (dropped off fresh every day from Cellone’s bakery) is superbly fresh and flavorful. The #2, (Roast Beef and Corned Beef with Provolone Cheese, Lettuce, Tomato and Onion) was colossal.
There’s a small, quaint ice cream shop at Farragut Street in Munhall. It’s not new by any stretch of the imagination. The small building that houses the precious soft-serve ice cream machines has been around for years. In fact, I can remember going when I was a kid, and that was, well- a while ago. If you ask Munhallers where to get soft-serve they will all tell you the same thing: Dells.
China House, Swissvale, PA
I got take-out from China House in Swissvale. I was tired of pizza (not really) and wanted to try some Chinese for a change. I love General Tso’s and Almond Chicken. I called around 6ish, and my food was ready in 15 minutes.
Everyone who has lived in the East End of town is familiar with D’s Six Paxs and Dogz. Situated at 118 South Braddock Avenue, D’s has the largest selection of import and micro beers with over 1,000 (yes, that’s three zeros) selections.
Last August, I went to Piper’s Pub on a first date. I was a little nervous. I don’t remember what I wore. I don’t remember eating or drinking anything. I could probably take a good guess about what the floor looked like because I’m sure I was staring at it all evening. For some unfathomable reason, the silly boy I went out with stuck around, and we went there again last week for a laid-back dinner. It’s really a shame I don’t remember that first dinner at Piper’s, because I’m sure it was lovely.
